Alan with a decent northern pike caught on Ottertrack Lake.
Fortunately for us, Alan is not a meat hunter when fishing for smallmouth bass. This is yet another smallmouth bass caught from ********* Lake.

If you only knew how great the fishing was here.........

Blowdown Damage on Gunflint Trail
Our Base Camp on 3rd Bay of Saganaga Lake. This was our final base camp of the trip.
A seagull cleaning up fish guts on at the 3rd bay site. Off in the distance, is the portage to Swamp Lake.
Canadian Boundary marker on Monument Portage.
Canoes on Ester Lake
Dave and Alan at camp on Ester Lake.
Mark and Dave with their canoe on Ester. This canoe is an Old Towne Camper I think. A pretty good all around canoe for the BWCA. Paddles ok, and seems to be a decent fishing platform.
Dave the Gadgetman on Monument Portage......Never again will we bring a dang duffle bag to the BWCA......Never, Never, Never......Again
Dave and Mark with a really decent northern pike from the magic cove on Ottertrack lake.....
Taking a rest at the end of Monument Portage. This is the Swamp Lake end of Monument. Can't believe it.......those blood sucking winged vampires are actually leaving us alone.....The wind is rather stiff here, probably blowing the mosquitoes from the portage entry. Lucky for us.
Leaving Ester. This was our campsite for 2 days.
Ester Portage from Cyprus. This portage is 80 rods, and increases elevation 150-200 feet. Not a really bad portage though.
George with yet another fish.......what is that.....at least 2........
George paddling on Zephyr lake
George AKA GeoFisher Portaging Monument Portage....
Yes, Geo actually does know how to catch fish.....not many though.....I do believe all members of our party this year outfished me.....
Our group (minus me because I was taking practically all the pictures) at the end of the Ester Portage. This portage was really covered with mosquitoes.
Paddling out to American Point on the last day.......This is 2nd or 3rd bay on Saganaga Lake.
The ride back home. Superior North really treats us right.....the have our vehicle down and ready when we arrive back from our tow from American Point. It is the little things like this that make Superior North a first rate outfitter.
Waiting for the portage to clear at Monument Portage.......We are in the water, but probably too close to the other party...... This is a really busy portage.....many travelers come this way from Saganaga.
Lunch on Jasper Lake. The fishing was pretty good here for smallmouth using the "magic bait".
Mark resting at the end of Monument Portage.
Mark with a huge smallmouth.
This one would go something like
4.5 lbs.
Some more blowdown caused by the 4th July storm last year.
Dave, Alan, and Chms.....waiting for the tow back to Superior North from American Point.......Notice we are the only group that has not beached on the point, which is illegal when getting a tow.....also, there are at least 3 different groups trying to organize at this spot to be picked up.....Did I
Still more blowdown on the island......this may have been caused by the 1995 fire instead of blowdown......not sure. This picture was taken on Saganaga.
This is one of the tents that we used this year. For the most part it kept us dry.....only 2 days where any water entered the tent. I should state that it rained every day we were here.......sometimes rather hard I might add.
