Boundary Waters/Quetico Spring Trip for 2002
June 15th-23rd, 2002
Day 6:Thursday, June 20th, 2002Blackstone Anyone?
Blackstone Lake had been a pretty good producer of quality fish last year. The least we could do was give it another chance.........You never know. Maybe Blackstone would be the "greatest smallie fishing lake EVER"...this is what we were told last year.
There were not takers for getting up at 5:00am and heading off to Blackstone Lake. Everyone decided to sleep. This was a good idea for everyone. We were all cranky, the flies were really annoying, Craig was ready to go home.......and me.........well...........I was still honked off about everything.
Alan and Josh headed off to Saganagons to fish the magic spots. Dan, Craig, Gadgetman and I lounged around camp until noon. We then headed up to Silver Falls to do some exploring. Dan and Craig wanted to hike up the portage side as far as they could. They followed the "river" up the falls. I kept in contact with a portable 2 way radio. Sitting on the rocks below Silver Falls, I just absorbed the peace, took in the sunshine, and thought about this trip had turned out. I was especially concerned about how the "newbies" would view the Boundary Waters, and if they would ever be back.
Dan and Craig noticed a bald eagle nest.............if you looked really close, you could see the eagle on a branch near the next. We all wondered if there was any hatchlings in the nest. This was a great site. I had only seen one other bald eagle nest in the Boundary Waters, and this was on Other Man a few days earlier.
Back at camp, we all sat around the campfire, had dinner, talked a little about the trip.......and griped about the stinking' flies.
